Tarsier, 3 owlets seized in Linan PDF Print E-mail

A tarsier and three owlets were recovered by farm workers at Tablao hill in Linan, Thursday, January 21, 2010, thereafter, the wildlife were turned over to Tupi Mayor’s office for proper disposition.

Julie Malida, 28, farmer, recovered the tarsier.  Malida, along with other farm workers were hired by a certain Making Tumbiga,  to clear his farmland for agricultural use atop Tablao hill in Purok Bagong Silang, Linan. He captured the primate after it jumps on his front while clearing the area with his bolo.

On the same day, his co-worker also recovered three (3) owlets at the nearby area. They called the attention of their Purok President, Alfonso Laco, 42, about the recovered tarsier and owlets. The latter brought the wildlife at Linan Barangay Hall.

Linan Brgy. Chair Reynaldo Alburo, in turn, ordered his men to bring the tarsier and the owlets to Tupi Mayor’s office.

Meanwhile, on the recommendation of Forester Leoniza Alfaro, the Protected Area Superintendent (PASU) of Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape (MMPL), the wildlife were released back to the wild the following day.

Mr. Rolando T. Visaya, administrative officer V, of the Local Government of Tupi and chair of Mt. Matutum Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) Information, Education and Communication (IEC) committee led in releasing the tarsier and the owlets at their habitats.

This is the third time that a tarsier was recovered in Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape.
